Supported File Formats and Limits

Butterflai accepts a wide range of file types. Each format serves a different purpose, and understanding the limits helps you get the most from the platform.

Excel files can contain up to 20 sheets per workbook. After upload, you preview and select which sheets to import. Each selected sheet is converted into a separate CSV, making it available for structured data analysis and KPI generation.

Images (PNG, JPG, WebP) are supported up to 25 MB. The AI processes images for text extraction (OCR) and content understanding.

Structured data files -- CSV and Excel -- deliver the best results for KPI generation and quantitative analysis. Clean column headers, consistent data types, and minimal merged cells produce the most accurate outcomes.

For text-heavy content like reports, policies, or procedures, PDF and Word formats work best. The AI excels at extracting and indexing narrative content from these formats.

PowerPoint files are ideal for presentations and visual reports where you want the AI to understand slide content.
